Laundering Cotton Patchwork Fabric
Laundering/Pre Washing Patchwork Fabrics before use is a matter of personal choice. However, pre washing fabrics generally ensures no uneven shrinkage of your made up item. Pre- washing also helps to eliminate transfer of dye, although this cannot be guaranteed with all fabric, particularly reds. Our advice is to always to colour fast test a small piece of fabric before use.
Fabric to be machine washed prior to use should be unfolded prior to placing in the machine. Wash light colours in non bio product. Soak dark fabrics for half an hour in cold water prior to washing, separately to light fabrics, and use non bio product and wash in cold water.
Do not spin patchwork fabric on a tight spin cycle, use 800 spin programme. Fabric can then be tumble dried on low cycle until almost dry and then press with an iron. Steam not recommended as this can stretch the fibres.
Finished items constructed with both light and dark fabrics should be washed in cold water only, using non bio product.
